Let the men run, pull your troops back, and reform your squares. Just make sure you leave those guys some room to run away from you, you don't want them fighting to the death. It's an almost guaranteed massive rout for the trapped enemies. Pull the cav back, charge them again, if necessary. To finish off his morale, and if some of your cav still hasn't been utilized, take that cavalry from behind your army, and charge them straight into the guys already boxed in, meaning they've been flanked from THREE sides. Now the enemy is trapped between two walls of spearheads, while you're still holding the lines out front. But this time divide your troops into three or four boxes, spaced evenly and slightly apart, about 1.5 times pila range, all in a horizontal line: Now, have your pikemen do the old surround-the-archers/women/general thing, with deep ranks. But instead of one Big Box, which is hard to move (it it moves at all, making it an ideal target for artillery), is largely reactionary (there'll be a lot riding on how your opponent decides to approach), is inflexible (can't adapt to new situations once committed), and is easily flanked. Which works best if you've got a mostly spear-comprised army caught out on wide open battlefields. There's been a lot of attention being paid to the box formation/tactic, and I've recently discovered a good subvariant: multiple boxes. Well, I finally found a way to salvage the pikemen from utter uselessness:
